NOTES

A handsome single-stemmed, tropical palm with broad, glossy green, feather-shaped leaves that protrude from a green crownshaft and has a narrow, upright habit. Areca catechu is grown for the important seed crop, the Betel nut. The nut itself is brown, oval and flattened at one end.

GEOGRAPHIC REGION

Tropical Pacific, Asia, and parts of east Africa.

An understorey plant of tropical, high rainfall forests
