This strange, but very beautiful palm sports a moderately tall, slender, smooth trunk topped by a spreading crown of large, undivided leaves that are whitish below and may be split by strong winds.  Said to be one of the world's rarest palms and is critically endangered.

GEOGRAPHIC REGION

Marquesas Islands, French Polynesia

NATIVE HABITAT

It occurs naturally in very moist, humid valleys as an understorey component.
